How does my name get listed in a lawyer directory?

Upon graduation from an accredited law school and upon completion and passing the bar exam in your state, your name is generated to the local and state bar association to be listed in their database or state attorney directory. You should always use your proper name or first initial rather than a nickname when registering for a listing. There are also online attorney directories that pick up information from sources such as these, listing all attorneys admitted to practice in that particular state. Some Internet attorney listings require application be made to them in order to be included in their listing and a strict screening process be undergone. Legal matching services, because of potential liability, will usually require this screening process and a certain amount of activity on the part of the lawyer to remain a viable listing in their directory.
